Ensuring compliance with data protection regulations is a fundamental aspect of managing an eCommerce app. The Data Privacy Settings section within Shoppy's Admin Dashboard provides merchants with tools to manage user consent, data collection preferences, and newsletter subscriptions in a transparent and compliant manner.
This section includes three key functionalities:
GDPR & Privacy Policy Compliance
Cookies and Consent Management
Newsletter Subscription Preferences
Enabling the "GDPR & Privacy" setting ensures that Shoppy displays mandatory check boxes for user consent during both sign-up and checkout. Specifically, this feature:
Adds an explicit opt-in checkbox for users to accept the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions before completing registration or a purchase.
Helps merchants maintain compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by ensuring that users provide informed consent before sharing their data.
EXAMPLE
A European-based store enables this setting to ensure that every new customer explicitly agrees to the terms before creating an account or making a purchase, reducing legal risks associated with data collection.
The "Newsletter Subscription" setting allows merchants to offer app users the option to subscribe to email marketing communications during the registration process.
When enabled, a newsletter opt-in checkbox appears on the sign-up screen.
Users can actively choose to receive promotional emails, ensuring compliance with anti-spam regulations and best practices.
EXAMPLE
An online fashion retailer enables this setting to build a high-quality mailing list, ensuring that only users who have explicitly opted in will receive promotional content, improving engagement rates and reducing unsubscribes.
Shoppy’s mobile apps, by default, do not utilize cookies in their standard, non-customized versions. However, certain third-party integrations, such as Firebase and Meta, involve external data sharing.
By enabling the "Cookies and Consent Solution", merchants can:
Allow end-users to manage their cookie preferences directly within the app, choosing whether to enable or disable:
Profiling Cookies – Used for personalized marketing and advertising.
Analytics Cookies – Used for tracking and improving app performance.
Access a Consent Database from the Shoppy Admin Dashboard, which logs users' preferences. This record serves as evidence of compliance in case of a privacy audit or inspection by regulatory authorities.
EXAMPLE
A merchant using Meta Pixel for advertising and Google Analytics (via Firebase) enables this setting, allowing users to opt out of tracking cookies. In the event of a regulatory inquiry, the merchant can provide the Consent Database to demonstrate compliance.
The Data Privacy Settings section provides merchants with essential tools to manage data collection and user consent, ensuring regulatory compliance while enhancing transparency and trust with customers. Properly configuring these settings helps safeguard user data, optimize marketing strategies, and minimize legal risks.
